The route at a glance

Vietri sul Mare - Capri is the start of the seasonal route along the Amalfi Coast: Vietri sits just past Salerno, and both boats pick up the whole coast from here before turning off for Capri. Alicost sails its speedboat in the morning and takes a good two hours, Sant'Andrea runs an excursion boat that picks up the towns as far as Positano and docks on Capri after just under three hours. Both return in the late afternoon.

The season runs to late October with Sant'Andrea and to early November with Alicost. Outside that window, and on days with a swell, the route via Amalfi or Salerno, where more boats sail, remains the option.

Departure in Vietri sul Mare

The boats leave from Marina di Vietri, the pier below the town; Sant'Andrea uses the Travelmar jetty. You'll find the Alicost desk on Via Pellegrini. Both operators also sell online; Sant'Andrea accepts cancellations of online tickets up to 48 hours before without a deduction.

Check-in and boarding

Alicost's conditions of carriage require you to be at the quay 30 minutes before departure, Sant'Andrea 15 minutes at the desk. With one departure a day, the deadline is meant seriously: anyone who misses the boat won't sail from here again that day.

On board

Alicost's speedboat is an air-conditioned seated cabin; Sant'Andrea's excursion boat has open upper decks. Hand luggage is limited, to one piece up to 9 kilograms with Alicost and to a bag with limited dimensions with Sant'Andrea; anything more needs a luggage ticket, cheaper at the desk than on board.

Vehicles, bikes and pets

Both boats carry only foot passengers; Alicost carries bikes on their own ticket, subject to the crew's approval. Pets travel with both for a pet fare, dogs on a lead and muzzled, small pets in a carrier, and with Sant'Andrea only on the outside decks. The Campania Region bans non-residents from bringing cars, motorbikes and mopeds to Capri, in 2026 from 30 March to 2 November and again over the New Year, with a few exceptions set out in the regulation.

Arrival on Capri

Both boats dock at Marina Grande, the island's only ferry harbour; the funicular runs to Capri Town, buses to Anacapri. The return to Vietri sul Mare is the single late-afternoon departure; if you miss it, a boat to Amalfi or Salerno remains, with the bus from there. The timetable shows both directions.

Tickets and fares

The price depends on the operator and the date and becomes binding at checkout; Capri also charges a landing fee, and children and groups pay less. An overview is on the prices page, and the alternative with more departures is on the Amalfi - Capri route page.
