The route at a glance
Ischia - Capri is island-hopping with no detour via the mainland, but only in season and not from a single harbour. Alilauro sails its hydrofoil from Ischia Porto straight to Capri in a good 40 minutes, once a day until late October. Capitan Morgan and Laser Capri Linee Blu run motor vessels that, on selected days, work as a day trip around the island's harbours: Forio, Lacco Ameno, sometimes Casamicciola, and Ischia Porto last, then straight to Capri and back in the late afternoon. Alicost picks up Ischia Porto in the afternoon as part of its route via Capri to the Amalfi Coast, until late September.
For you it's one decision, not three: the harbour nearest you. From Ischia Porto you're across in 42 to 70 minutes depending on the boat, from Lacco Ameno in around an hour and a half, from Forio in up to two, because the motor vessels first make their way round the island. Together that's up to three departures a day, all only between spring and late October.
Departure on Ischia
Ischia Porto is the island's transport hub, where buses from every direction end at the harbour. Alicost has its desk on Piazzale Redentore, and Capitan Morgan its main office on Via Iasolino at Molo Redentore, which the regional timetable also lists as the point of contact for Linee Blu. Forio sits on the west coast, Lacco Ameno on the north coast; both have piers with no terminal building, and tickets are available online or through the operator's agencies. Before buying, check which harbour your ticket names, since the harbour decides the crossing time.
Check-in and boarding
Alilauro requires you to be at the harbour 30 minutes before departure, with your ticket in paper or electronic form and ID; tickets are available online up to two hours before departure. Alicost states 30 minutes at the quay. For Capitan Morgan and Laser Capri Linee Blu's excursion boats, the time on your ticket applies; Laser Capri holds reservations until 30 minutes before departure.
On board
Alilauro's hydrofoil is an air-conditioned seated cabin; Capitan Morgan's motor vessels have a bar and outside decks and are built for the excursion. Hand luggage is limited: one piece up to 9 kilograms with Alilauro and Alicost, one piece up to 5 kilograms with Laser Capri; anything beyond that needs a luggage ticket, with Alilauro also available just before boarding at the boat.
Vehicles, bikes and pets
All boats carry only foot passengers; bikes and scooters travel with Alilauro for a fee and subject to space, and with Alicost on their own ticket subject to the crew's approval. Pets travel for a pet fare: with Capitan Morgan on a lead and muzzled, with waste bags and, if needed, on the outside decks, assistance dogs free; with Alilauro, Alicost and Laser Capri in a carrier or with a muzzle and lead, with a health or rabies certificate on request. The Campania Region bans non-residents from bringing cars, motorbikes and mopeds to Capri, in 2026 from 30 March to 2 November and again over the New Year, with a few exceptions set out in the regulation.
Arrival on Capri
All boats dock at Marina Grande, the island's only ferry harbour; the funicular runs to Capri Town, buses to Anacapri. Capitan Morgan gives you at least six hours on the island, and the excursion boats then sail back in a loop, again via Ischia Porto, Lacco Ameno and Forio. Alilauro's return sails in the late afternoon; the timetable shows both directions and all three harbours.
Tickets and fares
The price depends on the operator, the departure harbour and the date, and becomes binding at checkout; Capri also charges a landing fee, and children and groups pay less. Alilauro accepts cancellations up to 48 hours before, Laser Capri up to 24 hours before with a deduction. An overview is on the prices page; the route from the small neighbouring island is on the Procida - Capri route page.
Ischia - Capri
Three harbours on Ischia, one destination
Ischia - Capri is a seasonal link between the bay's two large islands, and it doesn't start at a single harbour. Alilauro sails its hydrofoil from Ischia Porto straight to Capri in a good 40 minutes. The motor vessels of Capitan Morgan and Laser Capri Linee Blu call, on selected days, first at Forio and Lacco Ameno, then Ischia Porto, and take around an hour from Ischia Porto and up to two from Forio. Alicost picks up Ischia Porto in the afternoon as part of its route via Capri to the Amalfi Coast, until late September.
For you that means the harbour nearest you decides, and with it the crossing time. Together that's up to three departures a day, all only between spring and late October.
