About Alicost
Alicost S.p.A. is the Amalfi Coast's speedboat operator, based on Salita Sopramuro in Amalfi, and like Alilauro and Capitan Morgan it is run within the Lauro Holding group. Its patch is the Gulf of Salerno: Salerno, Vietri sul Mare, Cetara, Maiori, Minori, Amalfi and Positano, plus Capri across the water, the Cilento coast, and in summer a route that reaches as far as Ischia and Procida. Alongside its scheduled services, the company also runs boat tours and charters along the coast. On Capri, the operator's desk is on Piazza Marinai d'Italia in the Marina Grande harbour.
Fleet
Alicost runs six single-hull speedboats for foot passengers: Shock with 400 seats, Relax with 393, Raid with 355, City of Amalfi with 330, Seagull with 195 and the small Fury with 80 seats, cruising at 16 to 24 knots, most with an on-board bar. There is no vehicle deck. Which boat covers your departure is decided by the operator as needed.
Routes to Capri
Alicost is the operator that connects Capri with the most towns on the Amalfi Coast. From 1 April the coastal route runs on a day-trip rhythm: in the morning from Salerno via Vietri sul Mare, Cetara, Maiori, Minori, Amalfi and Positano to the island, and back the same way in the afternoon. In Salerno the operator uses Molo Manfredi in the commercial harbour or Molo Masuccio in the tourist harbour, depending on the departure. Crossing time depends on where you board, since the boats hug the coast: about 35 minutes from Positano, around an hour from Amalfi, one and a half to a good two hours from the smaller towns. In spring the route starts out running on weekends only, moves to daily from June, and is wound down gradually in autumn. The second route links the islands: Ischia - Capri from Ischia Porto in about an hour and Procida - Capri in just under two hours, as part of the same run that starts on Procida in the morning and continues via Ischia and Capri on to the Amalfi Coast. It ends earlier in the year than the coastal route. Which departures run on your date is in the timetable.
Check-in, luggage and pets
The conditions of carriage require you to be at the quay at the latest 30 minutes before the scheduled departure. Hand luggage up to 50 x 35 x 20 cm and 9 kg is included free of charge; anything extra or larger needs a luggage ticket, which is cheaper bought with your fare than on board. One small or medium pet per passenger travels for a fee, dogs on a lead and muzzled or in a carrier, and never on the seats. Alicost does not carry vehicles; visitors face Campania's vehicle ban on Capri regardless.
Tickets
Tickets are available online through the operator's booking system, at the nine desks from Salerno to Ischia, and via the booking links on this site's route pages. The fare applies per leg and rises with distance from Capri; on top come the island's landing fee, higher in peak season, and in Salerno an embarkation fee. A child fare applies for ages four to twelve, and groups of 15 or more pay less. Published fares are on the prices page; the amount shown at checkout is binding.
