About Caremar

Caremar, Campania Regionale Marittima S.p.A., is the Bay of Naples' regional ferry company, based in Naples. It was founded on 5 November 1975 as the Campania-based subsidiary of the state-owned Tirrenia, passed to the Campania Region in 2009, and has belonged to the MSC group since 2012. Today it connects seven harbours around the bay every day of the year: Naples, Pozzuoli, Procida, Ischia, Casamicciola, Capri and Sorrento. For Capri that makes Caremar the constant: when the Amalfi Coast's seasonal routes have long since stopped and wind halts the neighbours' speedboats, the ferries from Porta di Massa are usually still running. Booking sites sometimes list the speedboat departures as Caremar Hydrofoil, which is the same operator.

Fleet

Caremar runs three types of vessel. The conventional ferries Adeona, Driade, Fauno and Naiade have outside decks and a vehicle deck; the fast ferries Isola di Capri, Isola di Procida and Isola di Vulcano are the enclosed, faster variant; the catamaran Achernar and the hydrofoil Eraclide cover the fast connections. Together, the operator says, the fleet totals around 12,000 tonnes and room for more than 5,200 passengers and about 300 vehicles. To Capri, the ferries sail from Calata Porta di Massa and the speedboats from Molo Beverello and Sorrento; which vessel covers your departure is stated on your ticket.

Routes to Capri

Caremar serves the island's two year-round corridors. On Naples - Capri, the ferries leave from Calata Porta di Massa and take one to one and a half hours depending on the vessel and the weather; the speedboats sail from Molo Beverello in around 50 minutes. Together with SNAV and NLG, the corridor sees more than 20 departures a day at peak season, and in winter Caremar carries the baseline schedule. Caremar sails Sorrento - Capri with fast ferries from Marina Piccola in about 25 minutes, one of six operators on the island's shortest crossing. Both routes run every day of the year; departures for your date are shown in the timetable.

Check-in, luggage, vehicles and pets

The conditions of carriage require passengers with a vehicle, and drivers, to be at the boarding point with a valid ticket at the latest 60 minutes before the ferry or speedboat departs; after that, boarding isn't guaranteed. As a foot passenger, follow the boarding time on your ticket and have it ready for the check at the gangway; in Naples, allow time to reach the right pier. Hand luggage is free: 20 kg on ferry and fast ferry, one piece up to 50 x 40 x 20 cm and 10 kg on hydrofoil and catamaran. Dogs wear a lead and muzzle, cats and small pets travel in a carrier, and pets stay in the designated areas or the on-board kennel, where the vessel has one; guide dogs are exempt. Vehicles travel only with their driver, and for Capri the island rule comes first: the Campania Region bans non-residents from bringing cars, motorbikes and mopeds, in 2026 from 30 March to 2 November and again from 28 December 2026 to 3 January 2027. A bookable vehicle ticket is not a permit to enter. Passengers with reduced mobility should register at least 48 hours before travelling.

Tickets

Caremar sells tickets online, through the MyCaremar app, and at the desks of every harbour, on Capri right at the Marina Grande pier; the crossings on this site can also be compared and booked via the route pages' booking links. On top of the fare come a booking fee, a surcharge for online purchases, and the island's landing fee; the ferry from Porta di Massa is cheaper than the speedboat, and child categories exist. Published fares are on the prices page, and departures for your date are in the timetable.

Caremar FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which routes to Capri does Caremar run? +

Two, both year-round: Naples - Capri with conventional ferries from Calata Porta di Massa and speedboats from Molo Beverello, and Sorrento - Capri with fast ferries from Marina Piccola. Your day's departures are in the timetable.

Ferry or speedboat, which should I take with Caremar? +

Both exist on the Naples corridor, and they leave from different piers: the ferry at Calata Porta di Massa has outside decks, a vehicle deck and the cheaper fare, while the speedboat at the more central Molo Beverello is around twenty minutes faster. In strong wind, speedboats are the first to be cancelled. Your ticket states the vessel type and pier.

The ferry carries vehicles, and a vehicle ticket can be booked. But the Campania Region bans non-residents from bringing cars, motorbikes and mopeds onto the island, in 2026 from 30 March to 2 November and over the New Year. A ticket doesn't override that ban; check your situation before booking.
