Alilauro Gru.So.N. S.p.A. was formed in the early 1990s when Alilauro, the Lauro family's speedboat operator from the Bay of Naples, merged with the Sorrento shipping group GRU.SO.N. The company is based in Sorrento, belongs, like Alilauro and Alicost, to the Lauro Holding group, and describes itself as the link between the islands and the mainland: more than thirty years in business, over twelve routes, and sailings 365 days a year. Its core is the Sorrento - Capri corridor, from which seasonal routes branch off to Positano, Amalfi, Castellammare di Stabia, Ischia and Procida. Bookings run through Alilauro's booking system, which sells the whole group's boats.

Fleet

Twelve boats sail for the operator: Apollo, One, Blitz, Carlotta, Città di Sorrento, Delfino, Europa Jet, Freccia Argento, Giunone Jet, La Sorrentina, San Valentino and Superflyte. All are speedboats for foot passengers with an enclosed cabin; there is no vehicle deck. Which boat covers your departure is decided by the operator as needed.

Routes to Capri

On Sorrento - Capri, Alilauro Gruson is the operator with the most departures: the speedboats leave from Marina Piccola below the old town and take about 25 minutes, the shortest crossing to the island of all. The route runs all year, with far fewer sailings in winter than in the summer half-year, when six operators share the schedule here. Two seasonal routes come on top: Castellammare di Stabia - Capri links the town on the Circumvesuviana line with the island, and Positano - Capri sails from the Amalfi Coast in about 35 minutes. Both run only in the summer half-year and with few daily departures; check your date in the timetable before you plan the journey.

Check-in, luggage and pets

The conditions of carriage require you to be at the quay at the latest 30 minutes before departure; after that the operator may refuse boarding even with a valid ticket. A discounted ticket must travel with the document that justifies the discount. One difference from its sister companies: tickets bought online for Alilauro Gruson sailings must be printed at the desk before boarding, so build in time for that. Hand luggage up to 50 x 35 x 20 cm and 9 kg is included; anything beyond that needs a luggage ticket, which is more expensive at the quay than when you buy your fare. One small or medium pet per passenger travels for a fee, dogs on a lead and muzzled and never on the seats. The operator does not carry vehicles; visitors face Campania's vehicle ban on Capri regardless.

Tickets are available through Alilauro's online shop, at the desks in Sorrento and at the harbours, and via the booking links on this site's route pages. The fare applies per leg, on top of which comes Capri's landing fee, higher in peak season than in winter.
