The route at a glance

Portici - Capri is a seasonal route run by Laser Capri, the motor-vessel operator based at Capri's Marina Grande. The timetable is built around a day trip: one departure to Capri in the morning, one return in the late afternoon, with the day on the island in between. The crossing takes around 75 minutes. Portici sits on the Vesuvius shore right by Naples; the route saves the trip to Molo Beverello, but takes longer than the speedboat from Naples.

The route runs only in the summer half-year, in the data until late October, and is worth it mainly if you're staying in or near Portici. Anyone wanting a freer day sails from Sorrento or Naples, where boats leave for Capri into the evening.

Departure in Portici

The boat leaves from Portici harbour, at Molo del Granatello on Banchina 3. Laser Capri's desk is there at Via Arturo Consiglio 32. Tickets are available there, online from Laser Capri, and at Molo 23 in Marina Grande on Capri, by cash or card.

Check-in and boarding

Laser Capri sets no fixed deadline for foot passengers, but holds reservations only until 30 minutes before departure; after that the reservation lapses. With one departure a day, that's the benchmark: be at the pier half an hour beforehand, with your ticket in paper or electronic form.

On board

Laser Capri's motor vessels are panoramic boats; the crossing of the bay is part of the excursion. Hand luggage is limited to one piece up to 5 kilograms, anything more travels for a fee. Tickets aren't refunded after departure; cancellation is possible up to 24 hours before at the issuing desk, with a deduction.

Vehicles, bikes and pets

The motor vessel carries only foot passengers; bikes are carried according to the booking details, so check before booking. Pets travel for a pet fare, dogs on a lead and muzzled, cats in a carrier, outside the passenger areas and with a health or rabies certificate on request. The Campania Region bans non-residents from bringing cars, motorbikes and mopeds to Capri, in 2026 from 30 March to 2 November and again over the New Year, with a few exceptions set out in the regulation.

Arrival on Capri

The boat docks at Molo 23 in Marina Grande, the island's only ferry harbour, where Laser Capri's desk also sits. The funicular runs to Capri Town, buses to Anacapri. The return to Portici is the single late-afternoon departure; if you miss it, a boat to Sorrento or Naples remains. The timetable shows both directions.

Tickets and fares

The price is fixed at checkout; Capri also charges a landing fee, children under two travel free without a seat, children up to eleven at the child fare. An overview is on the prices page, and the more frequently served alternative is on the Sorrento - Capri route page.
