About NLG

NLG stands for Navigazione Libera del Golfo, an operator from Naples based on Via Melisurgo, near the harbour. According to its own account, it has connected the harbours of the Bay of Naples for more than 80 years, above all Capri, the Sorrento peninsula and the Amalfi Coast, and in the Adriatic the Tremiti Islands. The company is run by the Aponte family, who come from Sorrento. Its more recent history begins in 1953 with the motor vessels Italia and Linda; today's company, NLG, was founded in 1981, and from 1988 water-jet hydrofoils gradually replaced the old motor vessels: the Capri Jet in 1988, the Sorrento Jet in 1990, the Napoli Jet in 1991, the Amalfi Jet in 1993, the Ischia Jet in 1995. Alongside its scheduled routes, NLG also runs excursions to Capri and the Amalfi Coast and a transfer between Capodichino airport and Molo Beverello.

Fleet

The fleet consists of single-hull speedboats: the 1999-built Super Jet with 580 seats was joined in 2003 by the Vesuvio Jet and the Tremiti Jet, electronically stabilised boats for 440 passengers at 35 knots, in 2006 by the Salerno Jet for the Gulf of Salerno, and in 2021 by the Jumbo Jet, with 700 seats and 28 knots one of the largest boats of its class and built in Italy. The motor vessel Picasso joined in 2007 for the Tremiti routes, and the restored Patrizia in 2022. All the boats are pure passenger vessels with an enclosed cabin; there is no vehicle deck. Which boat covers your departure is decided by the operator as needed, so the boat's name isn't fixed in advance.

Routes to Capri

No other operator sails to Capri from as many harbours. Year-round are Naples - Capri from Molo Beverello in around 50 minutes and Sorrento - Capri from Marina Piccola in about 25 minutes. In season, Castellammare di Stabia - Capri and the Amalfi Coast routes are added: Positano - Capri in about 35 minutes, Amalfi - Capri in around an hour, and Salerno - Capri from Molo Manfredi, where the boats call at Amalfi and Positano along the way. On the Amalfi Coast, the service runs on a day-trip rhythm, out to the island in the morning and back in the afternoon; which departures run on your date is in the timetable.

Check-in, luggage and pets

A ticket is valid only for the sailing named on it; allow time to reach the pier, since the desks close before departure and, in Naples, the two Capri piers are far apart. On luggage, NLG is stricter than its neighbours: one piece up to 50 x 30 x 15 cm and 5 kg is included, anything extra or larger travels for a fee, and suitcases must not sit on seats or block the aisles. Dogs are welcome on board, muzzled and on a lead, even indoors; cats and small pets travel in a carrier. You'll need a valid veterinary certificate, for dogs with proof of rabies vaccination, which may be requested when buying the ticket or when boarding. NLG doesn't carry vehicles; visitors face Campania's vehicle ban on Capri regardless.

Tickets

NLG sells online, at the harbour desks, and via the booking links on this site's route pages. The fare applies per leg, children under two travel free without a seat, and the child fare applies from two to twelve; age must be proven at purchase. You can cancel up to 48 hours before departure at the issuing point of sale with a 30 percent deduction, after that there's no refund. What the fare includes is explained on the prices page; the amount shown at checkout is binding.
