About Sant'Andrea

Sant'Andrea is a cooperative from Amalfi, run as Sant'Andrea S.r.l., with an office on Largo Duchi Piccolomini and a desk at Molo Domenico Cassone in the harbour. Its business is the Amalfi Coast's boats: excursions, the trip to the Emerald Grotto, beach transfers, charters and coastal vessels. For Capri it runs a route that picks up every town on the coast in turn and brings you to the island in the morning, with the return in the late afternoon. On Capri the boat docks at Marina Grande and leaves you the day there; the operator also sells the trip as an excursion with a boat tour along the island's south coast.

Boats

According to the operator, the motor vessel Don Francesco sails to Capri daily: just under 27 metres long, 344 seats, 121 of them on deck and 223 indoors, cruising at 16 knots. The smaller Alcor, with 160 seats, and Azimut, with 98, belong to the same fleet. All three are passenger vessels with no vehicle deck; the operator reserves the right to swap the boat on any given sailing.

Routes to Capri

The route starts in Salerno at Piazza della Concordia and runs via Vietri sul Mare, Cetara, Maiori, Minori, Amalfi and Positano to Capri, returning the same way in the late afternoon. Because the boat calls at every town, the crossing takes around three hours from Salerno, an hour and a half from Amalfi, and a good half hour from Positano; for the small towns between Vietri and Minori, Sant'Andrea is, alongside Alicost, the only link to the island. The regional timetable lists the route until late October. As a day trip it only works with an eye on the single return sailing; check both departures for your date in the timetable.

Check-in, luggage and pets

With an online ticket or a return ticket, you check in at the desk 15 minutes before departure; for the return leg with a return ticket, you reserve at the latest two hours before your chosen departure to guarantee a seat. Luggage of one piece up to 45 x 35 x 20 cm per passenger is included, anything extra travels for a fee and mustn't sit on the seats. Dogs, cats and small pets travel for a fee, dogs muzzled and on a lead, cats in a carrier, with a veterinary certificate and, for dogs, proof of rabies vaccination; they aren't allowed in the passenger areas, except guide dogs. Children under ten remain under their parents' supervision. Sant'Andrea doesn't carry vehicles; visitors face Campania's vehicle ban on Capri regardless.

Tickets

Tickets are available online, at the desks from Salerno to Amalfi, and via the booking links on this site's route pages. Children under five travel free without a seat, from five to ten at the child fare, on top of which comes the island's landing fee. You can cancel tickets bought online up to 48 hours before departure with no deduction, and you're refunded the amount minus any bank fees; if the operator itself cancels the sailing, you get a new ticket or a refund within seven days. What the fare includes is explained on the prices page; the amount shown at checkout is binding.
